DVSA announce test booking to reopen

From tomorrow, Friday 21 August, the test booking service from the DVSA is to reopen to candidates in England and Wales.

It’s been a long time coming, as examiners try to clear the backlog of both critical worker tests and those candidates who had a test booked before lockdown. The DVSA say that everyone in those groups has now been offered a new test date, so it’s time to open up booking to the wider public.

The upshot of this is that an already very busy training scene is about to get even busier, with waiting lists stretching out not just for tests, but also for slots with pretty much all instructors. Not ideal for the client, especially when combined even further with a general decline in registered driving instructors compared to last year.

The waiting list is now a fact of life for most trainers and customers, as it is with me, but most of us are happy to take reservations, and will do our best to fit you in as soon as is possible!

So, my advice? Wherever you are, whatever stage you’re at, be it new provisional license holder, wanting to restart training or approaching test standard before lockdown, get in touch with your instructor or trainer sooner rather than later 🙂
